Beginner and Novice Policy Debate Opening Instructional Meeting

September 24, 2020 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM EDT

Registration link

On Thursday, September 24th @ 6:30 pm we will kick-off our Policy debate preparations for our novice students. The meeting will last until 8pm.

We will be discussing the basics of the criminal justice reform topic and starting instruction on one of our core files that will be used in our Beginner division.

All high school students who come with coaches are welcome to join us.  Novice, JV, and Varsity policy debaters are also welcome.

If you wish to attend, Coaches should send an email to info@debate.nyc with your name, school, and the number of students you anticipate attending. After you register by email, we will send you the link.

We will email you the core files upon registration for the league.

What is the difference between the divisions?

The Beginner division is for new debaters who will debate two cases — police implicit bias training (link) and school resource officer elimination — for at least the entire fall semester. We may add more cases/arguments starting in January.  Students from any school can debate in Beginner, but they are restrained to debating these two cases and only using the evidence in the packet.

The Novice division is for new debaters who will debate with the National Debate Coach Association (NDCA) novice packet

The JV division is for debaters who will debate with the NDCA Novice packet plus additional arguments (lin

The Open division will not have any restraints.

Who is this session and other Beginner/Novice policy sessions for?

Our sessions will be targeted at preparing students to debate in the Beginner division.  Other debaters who think they can benefit from attending these sessions are welcome.
