On February 28th, 661 NYC Reads debaters from 36 schools gathered at Midwood High School for their second tournament of the year. Students debated our tariffs resolution just days after the Supreme Court struck down several existing tariffs, and many incorporated that breaking news into their rounds.
Pro teams argued that tariffs protect domestic industries and generate government revenue, while Con teams warned of inflation and escalating trade wars. To celebrate the day, each student received a “Debate Is the Free Trade of Ideas” t-shirt, a fitting tribute to the resolution and the spirited exchange of ideas taking place in every room.
