During the December holidays, many of us are thinking about what it means to return home and reconnect with family. At the New York City Urban Debate League, we are deeply grateful for our alumni who return to our community, no matter where their journeys have taken them.

Some return as judges, experiencing debate from the other side of the table. Others come back as workshop leaders, passing on the lessons they learned firsthand, or as interns supporting our work while in college. Even within our staff, members of the programming team began as league coaches and summer educators — and our CEO’s own children grew up debating in the League.

In the videos below, you’ll hear from Julie and Luis, two alumni who continue to shape the NYCUDL through their leadership, generosity, and commitment to the next generation of debaters.

Thanks to supporters like you, our students know they will always have a home to return to — a community that believes in them, supports them, and celebrates how far they have come.
