On November 22, 662 students from 37 schools filled MS 210 Elizabeth Blackwell with a spirit of learning and competition at the first NYC Reads tournament of the year. Students debated the resolution on AI and artistic expression, with arguments ranging from how AI expands access for those without traditional training to concerns about diminished creativity and lost jobs.

In a nod to the topic, every student received an “I ❤️ Debate” pencil case filled with colored pencils to spark their own artistic expression. This tournament — alongside the Open League earlier in the month — also featured a growing Spanish-language division, showcasing a vibrant community of bilingual debaters and reflecting our continued commitment to making debate more inclusive and accessible for all learners.
