We spent last Saturday with returning and new Open League debaters at our annual fall workshop.
Now in its fourth year, our Falling for Debate Workshop brings the NYCUDL family back together through a community-oriented workshop attended by 262 young debaters. The event serves as a welcoming entry point for students new to debate, providing clear orientation to logistics (including Tabroom), foundational sessions, and supportive connections across schools.
Returning debaters delved into advanced strategy, and all participants completed practice rounds alongside a guided walk-through of tournament structure. By day’s end, all students engaged the workshop resolution—Resolved: The benefits of artificial intelligence for artistic expression outweigh the harms—and left better prepared for a successful season.
Welcome back, Open League! We’ll see you at the first tournament in November.
