Middle School Parliamentary Debate 2015-16 Topics

* Topics are nominated and voted on by students and teachers.  Topic nominations are due the Wednesday before a tournament on a Google Document (Wednesday registration deadline).  Schools have until Friday to vote via Google Form.   And the upcoming tournament topics are announced during the Awards Ceremony at our Saturday Tournament.

Tournament #1- October 10, 2015

  • This House would raise the minimum wage
  • This House would make panhandling illegal
  • This House would implement year-round school

Tournament #2- November 14, 2015

  • This House would grant businesses the right to refuse service
  • This House would try and punish juvenile offenders as adults
  • This House believes that China and the US are long-term enemies

Tournament #3- December 5, 2015

  • This House would forbid racial preferences in state university admissions. (Community Topic)
  • This House would repeal the Second Amendment
  • This House would end birthright citizenship

Tournament #4- January 9, 2016

  • This House would ban animal testing
  • This House would ban homework for elementary school students
  • This House would reinstate the draft

Tournament #5- February 6, 2016

  • This House would adopt a carbon tax
  • This House believes all public colleges and universities should be free
  • This House would “ban the box” (inquiring about criminal record on job applications)

Tournament #6- Middle School City Championships- March 18-19, 2016

  • This House would declare English as the official language of the United States
  • This House believes nature has more influence than nurture
  • This House would disarm the police

Tournament #7- Borough Championships

  • This House would increase funding for space exploration
  • This House would let 100,000 Syrian refugees into the U.S.
  • This House would repeal the Hyde Amendment and fund abortions
