HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE NYC TRAVEL TEAM!
Welcome to the New York City Travel Team! New York City debaters are the best debaters in the nation! Our students have won city, state, regional and national titles! All students should participate in travel tournaments because it breaks every glass ceiling in terms of learning, expectations, and competition. Schools and students are always welcomed to travel on their own, but this is often unaffordable for many of our students. Therefore, the New York City Urban Debate League founded the New York City Travel Team to provide opportunities for our top debaters to travel and compete against the best in the nation.
There are two ways to participate on the New York City Travel Team. First, schools can sign up for our School Travel Program or “Travel Pool.” Each school is responsible for renting a bus during the year. In return, other schools and the NYCUDL rent buses for the rest of the year. So we provide for travel, housing, and one team meal. Schools are still responsible for tournament registration fees and judging. This helps to make travel affordable for schools. Second, students can apply for our Travel Team scholarships. Students should be high school students and have participated in local UDL tournaments before applying. The scholarship pays for everything including travel, housing, and registration fees. Students are still responsible to register on time, have a volunteer judge/chaperone, and cover meals through their school. Coaches can contact us for more information.
For more information on the Travel Team please contact us at email@example.com
Students who participate and do well at our local high school tournaments, are eligible to apply to participate on the New York City Travel Team. Limited scholarships are provided to pay for student registration, housing, transportation, and some meals.
Since our founding we have also offered the Travel Pool Program. Schools contribute a bus once a year and participate in our Travel Pool and Travel Team. Schools can then participate every month in Travel Tournaments at Yale, Harvard, Princeton, and other regional tournaments. Click the button below for more information!
Thank You to the Brown Rudnick Public Interest Foundation
There would be no NYC Urban Debate League without the incredible support of Brown Rudnick Law Firm. Brown Rudnick supported the league in its infancy when it started with a debate team “The Great Debaters” in a single classroom in the South Bronx with the mission that debate should be accessible to all. Since then, Brown Rudnick has supported the expansion of the Great Debaters citywide and the New York City Urban Debate League was founded. And so we have named our national awarding Travel Team after Brown Rudnick. Our Travel Team was built to ensure that there is no glass ceiling limiting our Great Debaters so that our debaters would have access and opportunity to compete in the nation’s most prestigious and competitive debate tournaments.
About the NYC Travel Team
Local debate tournaments are only the beginning! On any given weekend there are local, regional, state, and national tournaments! This makes debate the most rigorous academic program hands down! You wont find any other academic program with as many academic competitions! In fact, the Speech & Debate National Championships is the largest academic competition in the entire world with thousands of students participating.
While the costs of regional and national travel are prohibitive and prevent many students and schools from competition at a national level – our mission is to shatter these glass ceilings. And so the NYCUDL supports a citywide travel team to provide travel opportunities to the top debaters across the city.
