Last weekend, we finished off the middle school debate season with the MSQI Debate Championships at MS 50 in Brooklyn. The Peace Poets performed for the students during the awards ceremony. The students debated three rounds on the topic “The United States federal government should abolish solitary confinement in all prisons.”

The top team in the Bilingual division, was Carlos Francisco and Lisa Diaz from MS 50 and the top speaker was Yisneiry Rodriguez from MS 50. The top team in Tier B was Elie Vaserman and Justin Saltiel from IS 27 and the top speaker was Ellie Vaserman from I.S. 27. The top team in Tier A was Ifeoluwa Adedokun and Isabella Kovacs from MS 202 and the top speaker was Ifeoluwa Adedokun from MS202.

Thank you to the Middle School Quality Initiative, the New York City Department of Education, Council Member Antonio Reynoso, and MS 50 Principal Benjamin Honoroff. A huge shout out to all the schools and volunteers who attended last weekend. Thank you for making this the most incredible debate season yet!
